This involves the prevention, detection, apprehension, prosecution, and detention of those persons who violate criminal, civil, state, or local laws. Assistance is available in emergency situations, medical distress, vehicle accidents, and animal control. The County Sheriff is also the contact mental health holds, burning bans, county jails/correctional facilities and fingerprinting (call for specifics). Brookings County Sheriff has a dropbox for proper disposal of prescription medication. Old American flags can be properly disposed of at this location.

Bright Start is a community-based, voluntary program which implements the evidence based Nurse Family Partnership model to provide nurse home visitation services to families during pregnancy and may continue until the child's second birthday. ​Services include prenatal, maternal and infant/child health assessments and education; and health, safety and nutrition education. Families are linked with resources such as prenatal, postpartum, and pediatric medical care, family planning services, mental health services, job training, literacy services, employment opportunities, housing, substance abuse treatment, early childhood assessment and intervention opportunities, and other community resources. A mental health therapist is also available to provide individual and family therapy to the clients.

Providing trauma-based counseling for adolescents 12 - 17 who have experience or are at risk for sexual exploitation or sex trafficking and parents, foster parents or caregivers of adolescent girls who have experienced or are at risk for sexual exploitation or sex trafficking using the following group coaching, counseling, advocacy and support services, safety planning, education and awareness, crisis response, skills classes, and recreational outings.
