Provides peer support and financial assistance to individuals and families who have lost a loved one to suicide. Examples consist of financial assistance for grief counseling, burial expenses, clean-up costs, legal fees, and other suicide-related expenses. The Program Coordinator supports clients with referrals and resources to additional financial assistance programs and/or therapeutic support if needed. Also provides peer and emotional support and resource referrals for a year. Peer support is provided through telehealth meetings and check-ins.

Provides the following education and support services: Crisis Hot Line is a 24-hour service for anyone seeking help or information on domestic violence, stalking, or sexual assault. Domestic violence and sexual assault survivor advocacy services. Trained advocates are available to provide non-judgmental support for survivors, assistance with protection orders, referrals for medical needs/mental health/and legal services, food, personal items, diapers, other immediate needs, referrals for employment and education, and transportation to flee the area or for employment and housing search. Support and resource information by trained advocates to provide referrals for medical counseling, social services, and legal services depending on the victims needs. ​Confidential adult and children support groups which meet weekly. Available to all victims/survivors of past or present domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking. Call for more information on available groups. Community education programs providing speakers, videos, and materials to the public to increase education and awareness on the issues of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking. A 27-week educational program for individuals who abuse their partners, Domestic Abuse Intervention Project (D.A.I.P.), is also available. Call for more information on community education programs.

Programs include the following: Energy Conservation - South Dakota Building Science Training Center provides energy conservation information to the community. Information & Referral - Available to help point people to programs who could help (i.e.. CHIP, TANF, etc.). Low Income Organizing - Community Action Teams are volunteers organizing people to help themselves and others in the community. Prisoner Support Group - Activities are held for family support and monthly South Dakota Prison events. Youth Recreation - Swim passes and scholarships for camps, or other youth recreation activities. Available activity depends on site location. Children must be income eligible. VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) Navigators - Available during tax season.

The Union County Veterans Service Office (VSO) educates and assists veterans and their dependents and/or survivors in applying for veterans' benefits including benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs and the State of South Dakota. Referrals are also made to other agencies that may have potential benefits for veterans. Areas of primary activity are obtaining military records and discharges, death/burial benefits, education benefits, home loan certificates, non-service connected pension, service connected compensation, state bonus program, survivors benefits, and veteran affairs health care. Veterans are encouraged to register their discharge information (DD Form 214, Report of Separation) with the Union County Registrar of Deeds Office.

Employment Assistance - Career planning, development of jobs search skills, interviewing, networking, and resume assistance. Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) - Provides information and referrals to local resources for Air Force Families with an exceptional family member (whether medical, emotional, physical or educational). Military and Family Life Counselor Program - Masters or doctorate-level licensed counselors provide short term, non-medical counseling services to service members and their families at no-cost (anger management, communication, relationship issues, conflict resolution, parenting, decision making skills, deployment stress, coping skills, homesickness, relocation adjustment, reintegration, separation, sadness, grief and loss). Personal Financial Management - Provides counseling and education with budget and savings management. This can be done in a one-to-one financial counseling setting or in a class. In conjunction with the American Center for Credit Education, provides classes such as Credit when Credit is Due, Money In Motion, and Home Buying classes for financial education. Readiness program - Assists military members and their families to prepare and go through deployments, TDY's, and remote tours. The Readiness program offers assistance with pre-deployment counseling, preparing practical aspects of separations, providing support to families, and offering reunion support.

Outpatient mental health counseling center providing 100% free services to eligible Veterans, active duty service members, and their families. Part of the US Department of Veterans Affairs but separate from the VA Medical Centers, with separate and confidential medical records. Offering individual, group, and couples counseling both in Rapid City and at a number of Community Access Points in the Black Hills. Also, a referral service and can point Veterans in the right direction for any information they may need in terms of accessing benefits, enrolling in VA health care, etc. Specialty is helping Veterans readjust successfully into civilian life, and provides counseling for a wide range of problems, from mental health issues like PTSD, depression, and anxiety to life stressor issues such as work-related or relationship difficulties. Volunteers of America hosts a Veteran Outreach Center Monday through Friday, where Veterans and their families can access immediate resources including: laundry room and necessary supplies. shower facilities and personal care supplies, computer resource center, community day room with coffee and snacks, and access to copier and mail center. For eligible Veterans experiencing homelessness, at risk of homelessness, or those experiencing life changes that can threaten their existing housing stability, Volunteers of America services and assistance may also include: referrals/linkage to VA Housing and community Veterans' services, coaching/case Management that is focused on employment, housing retention and budgeting, processing requests for copies of DD-214s, help getting government issued identification, job-related transportation, job skills training, obtaining materials for new jobs, and job retention once a job is found.
