Children's Connection, a United Way Agency, works with the Sioux Falls School District to provide group counseling services to children with an incarcerated loved one. Family Connection, through the Children's Connection program, is working to break the generational cycle of incarceration. The program will involve group counseling and other appropriate services with an emphasis on providing support, education and other positive coping skills. The goal is to provide a safe place for children to talk and know they are not alone.

Works to increase identification of youth and families who have been exposed to traumatic stress and shorten the time it takes to get them into effective treatment programs. Offers free screenings to children who may be experiencing traumatic stress, and then, if information warrants, a full assessment will be scheduled. Youth and families who are identified as experiencing traumatic stress will be referred to appropriate treatment providers. Treatments available at YFS include: - Trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy - Child parent psychotherapy - Equine Therapy - Problematic sexual behavior-cognitive behavioral therapy - Prolonged exposure therapy - Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) - Integrative treatment for complex trauma - Motivational interviewing Also assists community mental health providers' expansion of trauma-focused knowledge and skills through education, training, and collaboration.

Case Management and IMPACT Programs, designed to help clients with severe and persistent mental illness, services include case management and continued care, medication management with psychiatrist, crisis intervention assistance, and psychiatric rehabilitation which seeks to provide program services that assist clients in developing skills and manage resources needed to allow them to be successful in the community. A client centered, client directed form of treatment, the program consists of services designed to restore the disabled person to a level of functioning which permits a useful, meaningful life.

Intensive, non-residential treatment program providing services to children who meet the states' Severe Emotional Disturbance (SED) criteria and would not be successful in less restrictive services. Also provides services to their families. Incorporating counseling, case management, and family support services, with the goal of assisting in the development of a nurturing and stable family environment in which children may grow. A counselor along with family, individuals supporting the family, and professionals will develop a customized treatment plan which will assist in meeting the needs of the child and family. Services provided to program participants include 24-hour crisis assistance, counseling services, chemical dependency screenings and assessments, case management, dedication management, psychiatric services, classes and workshops on mental health topics, early childhood mental health services, and play therapy for children ages 0 to 5. Some therapies offered in this program include Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT), and Aggression Replacement Therapy (ART).
