The Vermillion Police Department is responsible for serving and protecting the citizens of Vermillion. Community programs include DARE, Report It, ALICE, Red Tag Nuisance Abatement, Ride Along program, and year-round prescription drug take-back site.

A residential group care program for males, who have adjustment problems, between the ages of 9 and 18 years old and an independent living program for males between the ages of 17 and 20 years old. During residency, the boy is provided with educational services (accredited on-campus school capable of issuing high school diplomas) as well as programming designed to assist him in developing positive self esteem, life skills, a positive work ethic, and self-sufficiency. The major goal is to re-establish him into successful living patterns that will enable him to be a positive contributing member of his community.

Provides support to the community to reduce substance abuse in youth, increase youth leadership development, and promote healthy alternatives for our youth. ​Additionally, the coalition is able to offer low to no cost, Evidence Based Mental Health Awareness Trainings.

Shelter services for youth are referred by law enforcement in Pennington County, Runaway or have the propensity to become runaway, Homeless or have the propensity to become homeless or In the Department of Social Services or Department of Corrections custody. Reception Center: Youth screening process with recommendations are made for services and programs. Shelter Care: For youth, referred through Law Enforcement, Pennington County, DSS, or DOC. A short term (30 days or less) group care facility that will assist youth and their parent or guardian through a screening process to identify needs, community resources, and a discharge plan in collaboration with the family and referring agency.

Adolescent substance use prevention, early intervention, drug and alcohol assessments and outpatient treatment for all youth in the Rapid City, Box Elder and area communities. Lifeways has school-based Addiction and Prevention Counselors in the Rapid City Area School District and limited services in the Douglas School District. Addiction Counselors are also available at main office in Rapid City for all adolescents (public, private and home-schooled) who are experiencing problems with substance use and in need of screening and/or assessment and treatment.

Provides coaching, education and mentorship services to both youth and adults in transition; life transition, work transition or transition from incarceration and homelessness. Support is provided to the vulnerable through group and individual life, character and career coaching classes.

Confidential, 24/7 crisis intervention for runaway and homeless youth and their families via phone, text, chat, email, and bulletin board. Referrals, conference calling with a parent upon youth's request, conflict mediation, and information hotline. Free bus tickets home to family or shelter for qualified youth ages 12-21.

In-home case management for children, youth, and/or families that are at risk of system involvement (child welfare, juvenile justice, criminal justice, etc.). Assists caregivers strengthen their families and prevent child abuse and neglect through education, skill development and therapeutic crisis management.

A detailed safety process used when an individual has made a specific threat toward a school, individual, or group of persons and/or has brought a weapon to school (including threats made on social media). This includes talking with the student, other students involved, family members, school staff, law enforcement, and others with helpful information. It also includes collecting facts and asking important questions to understand the level of risk.

A local non-profit, non-political coalition whose members come from all walks of life and are committed to creating and supporting a community where youth and young adults are valued and welcomed in an environment that encourages them to be drug-free and healthy without pressure to use alcohol, tobacco, and drugs.

Offers access to resources such as training, videos, curricula, and books on topics surrounding the issues of alcohol, tobacco, other drugs, and violence related issues. Training and resources are offered around mental health first aid and suicide prevention. Provides services to 21 counties in the N.E. region of South Dakota. Also, has opioid prevention resources such as DisposeRX packets, medication lock boxes, and Naloxboxes.

The CWOY Support Navigator program is designed to provide support for American Indian youth, adults, and their families in the He Sapa area who struggle with suicidal thoughts or behaviors. CWOY Support Navigators act as mentors, advocates, and resource guides for American Indian youth, adults, and families needing support for their healing and personal growth. Services offered include one-on-one mentorship, advocacy, individualized care planning, outings, activities and workshops, transportation to appointments, collaboration with behavioral health resources, coordination for success in academic programs, communication with family members, connecting participants to peer and community programs in support of healing goals, skill-building, mental health counseling, and therapeutic circles.

The WPRC seeks to divert or delay those we serve from substance use and other high-risk behaviors to promote choices/behaviors resulting in lifelong mind and body wellness. The WPRC primarily focuses prevention support services to stakeholders in South Dakota's 22 westernmost counties, but often serves an even broader audience. The WPRC's services include providing education, technical assistance, training and other support to prevention service providers, youth, parents, educators, community groups, social service providers, health/wellness agencies, chemical dependency service providers, law enforcement and other community wellness stakeholders. WPRC staff can provide community education and information on a broad range of prevention topics. The Juvenile Diversion Program, which includes Teen Court and Truancy Court, is a collaboration between the Pennington County State's Attorney, the 7th Judicial Court, and local social service providers. It is offered as an alternative to court involvement for juvenile offenders ages 10-17. Teen Court is a volunteer youth program, and accepts volunteers 14-17 years old. Charges typically eligible for diversion include: Minor consumption/possession of alcohol Shoplifting Simple assault Disorderly conduct Disturbance in school Truancy Possession of tobacco, marijuana, or drug paraphernalia The following are some of the classes and other activities that may be required during the three-month program. Participants are responsible for all program costs. Scholarships may be available for families needing financial assistance. - Property Offense and Stop and Think Classes, a two-hour class emphasizing choices and consequences. - Community Service, juveniles work as volunteers in the community for a specific number of hours in either diversion-arranged projects or at other sites arranged by the family. - M.A.D.D. Victim Impact Panel, juveniles attend a presentation by individuals whose lives have been affected by drinking and driving accidents. - Tattoo Removal, juveniles wanting tattoos removed, can be referred to T.R.U.S.T. (Tattoo Removal Unified Support Team).

Boys' Health Program is offered to those who may be at risk of developing physical, mental, or social health problems. Boys are referred to the program by school counselors, teachers, parents, health service providers, and social services agencies. Once enrolled, boys work closely with advocates to set and attain individualized goals. This program provides health-focused case management, education, advocacy, and prevention services. The Boys' Health Program helps lay the groundwork for lifestyle habits and attitudes that will strongly influence boys' health and behaviors as adults.

The SEPRC works with others across the state to provide prevention resources, training and technical assistance through program development and training. Offers a 12-hour diversion class for individuals aged 17 - 20 years, designed for individuals who may be making high-risk choices and aim to change drinking and drug use behaviors.

Arise Youth Center provides detention alternatives for youth in Minnehaha County, including: - Reception Center: Safe environment for law enforcement can transport youth to wait to be picked up by a parent or approved adult, staff complete screenings and offer resources to the youth and their parent or guardian. - Shelter Care: Temporary care as an alternative to going into a secure detention facility if the youth does not require that level of service. Assists youth and their parent or guardian through a screening process to identify needs and community resources along with a discharge plan in collaboration with the court system. Evening Reporting Center: An alternative to detention that allows youth to remain in the community while receiving additional services. Services include 4 hours of programming that incorporates homework help, meal planning and preparation and job skill development.
