Protects the rights of the citizens within its jurisdiction to be free from criminal attacks, to be secure in their possessions and to live in peace. The County Sheriff is also the contact mental health holds, burning bans, county jails/correctional facilities and fingerprinting (call for specifics).

Provides secure detention of juveniles who have allegedly committed a delinquent act and non-secure detention for alleged children in need of supervision. While in detention, the juvenile is provided educational and recreational opportunities. The educational services are provided by the Sioux Falls School District. Juveniles may be sentenced to the Center by the Courts for up to 90 days.

The Hughes County Juvenile Service Center was established to provide secure and safe detention for Juveniles who are accused, adjudicated, given a disposition, and/or awaiting transfer to another facility.

The Beadle County Regional Correctional Center houses the Adult Jail and Juvenile Detention Center. Current programs available to inmates include Work and School Release, Mental Health assistance, Drug Counseling, Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), and religious services. Visitation services also available for the public.
