Bright Start | Children's Home Society of South Dakota

Bright Start is a community-based, voluntary program which implements the evidence based Nurse Family Partnership model to provide nurse home visitation services to families during pregnancy, after delivery and may continue until the child's second birthday. Services include prenatal, maternal and infant/child health assessments and education; and health, safety and nutrition education. Families are linked with resources such as prenatal, postpartum, and pediatric medical care, family planning services, mental health services, job training, literacy services, employment opportunities, housing, substance abuse treatment, early childhood assessment and intervention opportunities, and other community resources. A mental health therapist is also available to provide individual and family therapy to the clients.

Focus is first time mothers with limited economic and/or social and health resources. Exceptions determined on a case-by-case basis and program capacity.
